“Coming Home” by Theresa Awai premieres at Trinidad’s Queen’s Hall

It is not often that an award-winning team of local actors are assembled on one stage, led by an award-winning director in a gripping local play by an award-winning local playwright. But that is what audiences can look forward to next weekend as the decorated cast of Theresa Awai’s “Coming Home take the stage in the play’s Queen’s Hall premiere.

Written by Cacique Award-winning actor and playwright Theresa Awai, “Coming Home” is a provocative, poignant, funny and ultimately heart-warming new work that tells the story of how one family’s decades’ old secrets, jealousies, and rivalries are uncovered when four strong-willed siblings battle over their deceased mother’s will. As the action unfolds, we find that blood is indeed thicker than water… until everyone reads the will.

Cacique Award-winning director Raymond Choo Kong has pushed himself and his cast to dig deep for this challenging work, giving audiences a rare opportunity to see some of Trinidad’s most well-known actors – often best-known for their comedic skills – showing their dramatic chops. Read more »

The return of Miss Miles to Trinidad’s Little Carib Theatre

Miss Miles - the Woman of the World at the Little Carib Theatre in TrinidadTony Hall’s Miss Miles – the Woman of the World was one of the most anticipated and exciting theatrical events of 2011, prompting four extensions after its first run in late October. It’s an exciting project of which MEP has been proud to be a media sponsor. This weekend, the indomitable Miss Miles returns to the historic Little Carib Theatre, Friday 2nd through Sunday 4th March, 2012.

Heralded by audiences and critics alike, the show has played to standing-room-only audiences and nightly standing ovations. Patrons have celebrated the timeliness of this historic new play, which follows the life and tragic death of a true Trini patriot, activist and whistle-blower Gene Miles. Those who knew the dynamic and colourful Miles have praised Cecilia Salazar for her sensitive and masterful portrayal of this Trinidadian heroine.
