We got some sad news a few days ago. Hugh Williams — our dear friend, treasured colleague and advisor, and our Board Secretary from our inception 25 years ago through now — passed away suddenly on 10 December.
Many in the business community will know Hugh well. Born and raised in Jamaica, he graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science (chemical engineering), and from the University of Western Ontario with an MBA (Hons) in Finance & General Management. He also attended a number of continuing education programmes at the Wharton and Harvard Business Schools. After moving to Trinidad, he worked at KPMG (an international firm of chartered accountants), where he was part owner and Partner-in-charge of Management Consulting, focussing especially on on assessing organisational performance and helping to chart corporate action plans. He continued there as a consultant after his retirement. He also lectured in business policy at the undergraduate level, and designed and facilitated workshops for executives in both the public and private sectors. He served on various boards, including with us at MEP, and at AIC Financial Group Limited. He was also a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultancy in the United Kingdom.
To say he will be missed would be an understatement. We will always remember his wry sense of humour, and his sensible and thoughtful guidance over the years as we worked — even within the last few weeks and months — on plans for MEP’s next 25 years. Our deepest condolences to all those who knew and loved him, and especially to his wife Jeanette and his two sons, Stephen and Stuart. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. And to our dear Hugh: we are so grateful to have known you, and for your faithful friendship and support over these many years. May you rest in peace.
