Current Openings
• Editors
MEP is currently looking for talented editors to join the Caribbean Beat and Discover Trinidad & Tobago editorial teams. MEP editors (both staff and freelance) work on every aspect of a publication (as applicable), in addition to editing copy: content planning, scheduling, budgeting, and commissioning writers and photographers, as well as liaising with editorial, advertising, design, production and marketing teams. Compensation commensurate with experience.
Requirements:
Passion for MEP publications, and for magazine and/or book publishing
Excellent command of the English language, with strong grasp of grammar and style rules, and keen attention to detail. Previous experience as an editor is a must
Excellent inter-personal skills, with a patient and persistent drive to succeed, and an ability to work with existing editorial, sales and creative teams, as well as an international base of contributors and clients
Excellent organisational and time management skills
Undergraduate and/or postgraduate degree in English, Journalism, Publishing or related field preferred, but not required
Understanding of/familiarity with digital publishing platforms and integration with print publishing (including blogging, social media, and mobile applications) an asset
Familiarity with Macintosh computers, Microsoft Office and the Adobe Creative Suite an asset

• Interns
MEP is open to applications from enthusiastic, creative and hard-working interns to work on MEP’s magazines. Internships typically run over the June–August, September–December, and January–May school periods, though internship lengths can be customised as necessary. Interns typically are involved in all aspects of production at MEP, and primarily with research, writing, and administrative support. We are particularly interested in the moment in interns with graphic design interest and experience.
Some areas of responsibility include:
Working with our design team to lay out MEP’s publications in pre-press and package for the printer
Working with our creative and marketing teams on making our publications available online (including our ongoing Caribbean Beat Archive Project)
Working with the marketing teams in promoting our websites, magazine and book titles – including subscription drives, retail distribution, advertising and publicity campaigns
Working with the editorial team of select MEP publications at every stage of the publication process – from content planning to proofreading
Working with our sales teams on advertising campaigns
Requirements:
Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
A sustained interest in magazine publishing, and/or magazine marketing and advertising
Ability to work effectively with existing editorial, sales and creative teams
Ability to work hard and to deadlines, with a keen attention to detail
Familiarity with Macintosh computers, Microsoft Office and the Adobe Creative Suite a plus
Specific skills (e.g. photography) would be welcome

Accepting Resumés

• Sales & Marketing Representatives
Our current opening is for Regional & International Sales Representatives for Caribbean Beat.Responsibilities include selling both in print and online, and servicing the Caribbean region and international clients with Caribbean interests. The ideal sales representative is a motivated and responsible self-starter, with excellent organisational and inter-personal skills. Reps are given the flexibility to work out of their own home offices and to set their own call and networking schedules, but with frequent reporting and accountability. Compensation in the form of basic salary plus commission.
Requirements:
Passion for MEP’s publications, particularly Caribbean Beat, a patient and persistent drive to succeed, and excellent interpersonal skills
A driver’s licence and a car
A passport
Strong communication skills – both written and verbal – and strong organisational skills
Computer literacy with competence in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word. Familiarity with Apple Macintosh computers an asset
Understanding of and interest in web advertising a plus
Previous successful sales experience is a great asset but not essential, and training will be provided if necessary

• Graphic Designers
MEP’s range of magazines, books, websites and client projects provide a number of opportunities for talented designers on both a permanent or contractual/freelance basis.
Design opportunities & responsibilities include:
Managing the design, lay out, and packaging of our publications for the printer
Producing illustrations for MEP’s print publications
Creating designs and redesigns for the company’s various corporate and publication websites
Creating artwork and campaigns for MEP’s online advertisements and branding
Creating marketing materials for both print and web
Designing online marketing portals, including Facebook Pages, company blogs, and more
Excellent experience and exposure in the local and international commercial (and nonprofit) publishing industry
Flexible work hours
Compensation (salary and benefits package or contract fee, where applicable) commensurate with experience
Requirements:
Advanced qualification in graphic design, or proven job training and experience, with a sustained interest in publishing (in print and/or online)
Ability to work effectively with existing editorial, creative and sales teams
Ability to work hard and to deadlines, with keen attention to detail and strong organisational and communication skills
Creativity and initiative
Command of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and Apple Macintosh computers
Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and web design programmes a strong plus

• Editorial Assistant
The Editorial Assistant is typically involved in all aspects of production at MEP, and particularly with administrative support. They should be enthusiastic, creative and hard-working.
Requirements:
Excellent organisational skills and a strong work ethic, with an ability to work hard and to deadlines, and keen attention to detail
Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and proofreading ability
Strong inter-personal skills, able to work effectively with existing editorial, sales and creative teams; and to liaise courteously and efficiently with contributors and clients
Familiarity with Macintosh computers and Microsoft Office (ideally, Adobe Creative Suite as well)
A sustained interest in magazine publishing is a plus
