Caribbean Fine Cocoa Conference & Chocolate Expo in Tobago

I LOVE chocolate, which is why I was very excited that Caribbean Beat was invited to the 3rd Regional Caribbean Fine Cocoa Conference & Chocolate Expo being held at the new Magdalena Grand in Tobago on 28–29 June.

This event brings together cocoa users, food specialists, cocoa farmers, potential investors and anyone passionate about chocolate (that would be me!). Attendees can also look forward to learning about the cocoa/chocolate industry across the region, from the Eastern Caribbean islands, to the Dominican Republic and on to Jamaica, Belize, Costa Rica, and of course Tobago.Keep readingCaribbean Fine Cocoa Conference & Chocolate Expo in Tobago

Trip to Tobago’s Canoe Bay

Last July, when my best friend told me she was coming back home to Trinidad for a few weeks, after not seeing her for months (as she’s studying in Canada), the first thought that entered my mind was “Bago Trip!”

We’ve called it our tradition since we were 15 years old: our annual trips to Tobago. As we are not the type to do the usual Store Bay and Pigeon Point trips, we always set out to look for lesser known beaches where we can just lay out in the sun, read and relax without all the excessive noise and crowds. The front desk clerk at our Crown Point hotel suggested we check out Canoe Bay, which was great because we’d never been and it wasn’t too far from where we stayed.Keep readingTrip to Tobago’s Canoe Bay

The Tobago Underwater Carnival 2012

Trinbagonians and diving experts know it: Tobago’s beaches and surrounding bodies of water (the Caribbean to the west, the Atlantic to the east) are perfect not just for casual beach-goers and snorkellers, but hard core diving enthusiasts and everyone in between! It’s no surprise then that the Tobago House of Assembly (THA)  in collaboration with the Association of Tobago Dive Operators (ATDO) – has run the Tobago Underwater Carnival the last few years, and it returns once more this 22–29 July, 2012.Keep readingThe Tobago Underwater Carnival 2012

In this year of looking back at 50 years of independence, a conversation series dubbed At the Feet of the Masters aims to provide insight into the personal narratives, life stories and autobiographical memories of five icons of Trinidad and Tobago culture.

Calypso megastar, the Mighty Sparrow; art prodigy David Moore; steelband innovator, Dr. Ellie Mannette; Midas-touch record producer Rawlston Charles and promoting legend, Flag Woman Janet, will tell it in their own words when they take center stage at Tropical Paradise Ballroom, 1367 Utica Avenue, Brooklyn, 3–29 June during Caribbean Heritage Month in the US.Keep readingSit at the feet of Caribbean masters for Caribbean Heritage Month in New York
