Football fever

Today’s the big day for Trinidad and Tobago football fans–specifically, the day T&T plays the final qualifying match against Bahrain for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. After drawing 1-1 in the first match last Saturday, T&T has to win outright today.

Over at Caribbean Free Radio, Georgia has posted a scanned version of the article she wrote for Caribbean Beat back in 1998 about the Caribbean’s participation in the World Cup (1998 was the year Jamaica qualified for the tournament).

The match starts at noon T&T time, which is just about twenty minutes away. Of course, here at Caribbean Beat we’re rooting for our home team–and if T&T does win, we’ll have to get straight to work planning a special feature for our May/June 2006 issue.
