We’re hiring! MEP is expanding our editorial and design teams

We’re looking to hire an Editorial Assistant and a designer to join our growing team in January 2019! To learn more about MEP — a small, family business that has been publishing books and magazines for over 25 years — click here.

 


• The Designer position

As one of our beloved designers is migrating, we’re on the hunt for a new designer to join our team. At MEP, our designers are responsible for design and layout of assigned magazines (like Caribbean Beat, CONTACT, and Discover Trinidad & Tobago), books, client projects, and internal branding, and work closely with the Editor, Editorial Assistant, General Manager, and clients on assigned projects. Starting date: January 2019.

The ideal candidate:

  • is a motivated, reliable, and responsible self-starter
  • has excellent organisational and inter-personal skills
  • has keen attention to detail
  • keeps a close eye on innovations and trends in the field of design
  • has significant, demonstrable experience in graphic design, layout, and media/publishing
  • has at least a first degree in graphic design or a closely related field.

Responsibilities and job requirements include:

  • Designing and laying out assigned publications (magazines, books, newsletters, etc), as well as media kits, maps, infographics, crosswords, and advertisements as necessary
  • Working closely with the Editor and Editorial assistant on photo sourcing and selection
  • Photo editing/retouching as necessary
  • Preparing web-ready versions of our publications
  • Strong understanding of pre-press procedures and requirements to maintain quality control
  • Computer literacy, with command of design software (particularly the Adobe Creative Suite or similar software), in Microsoft Office applications, and Apple computers.

Compensation and terms are negotiable and commensurate with experience and skill set.

• The Editorial Assistant position

The Editorial Assistant provides invaluable support to all departments in producing our magazine, book, and client publishing projects. Starting date: January 2019.

The ideal candidate

  • is a motivated, reliable, and responsible self-starter
  • has excellent organisational and inter-personal skills
  • has keen attention to detail
  • has experience working in the field of media/publishing
  • has at least a first degree in media, communications, or a related field.

Responsibilities and job requirements include:

  • Photo research
  • Proof-reading and fact-checking
  • Liaising with clients and contributors
  • Administrative support for all publications, including maintaining and updating critical databases and internal archives/records
  • Computer literacy, with competence in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word. Familiarity with Apple Macintosh computers an asset.

The following skills are a strong asset, but not a requirement:

  • Strong writing skills (with the opportunity to become a contributor to our magazines)
  • Basic editing skills
  • Familiarity with online publishing and social media
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite applications.

Compensation is negotiable and commensurate with experience and skill set.
